WINNING CONDITIONS

In addition to owning 1 Golden Star badge (earned by winning a Challenge round), players must successfully travel to and place their colored token on all of the following provinces by answering the corresponding question cards:

  • Sơn La province

  • 1 province in the Midland and Northern Mountainous Region or North Central Coast with a Group 1 tile

  • 1 province in the Central Highlands or Mekong River Delta with a Group 3 tile

  • 1 province in the Midland and Northern Mountainous Region, North Central Coast, or Central Highlands with a Group 5 tile


SPECIAL PRIVILEGE

If a player lands on a province that belongs to the traditional homeland of their assigned ethnic group, they gain one-time access to one of the following special privileges:

  • Confiscate 2 province flags from any other player and return them to the bank, or

  • Convert 1 province flag of another player into your own.

ETHNIC GROUP INFORMATION

Origins and History: The Thái people trace their roots to the mainland of Southeast Asia. Their ancestors settled in Vietnam long ago, forming a diverse community with multiple local branches and varied lineages. The Thái people in Vietnam are not a single unified group but a collection of sub-groups with rich cultural expressions.


Social Structure

  • Village-based communities (bản, mường)

  • Elder leadership system including village elders and councils


Religion and Beliefs

  • Ancestor worship

  • Veneration of agricultural deities

  • Celebrations and rituals include:

    • Plowing festival (lễ xuống đồng)

    • Rain prayer (lễ cầu mưa)

    • Rice spirit summoning (rước hồn lúa)

    • Harvest prayer (lễ cầu mùa)


Arts and Culture

  • Traditional Xòe dance, poetic singing, and instruments like the bamboo flute (sáo lam) and vertical flute (tiêu)

  • Folk games:

    • Ném còn (ball throwing), tug of war, horse racing, boat cruising, crossbow shooting, Xòe dancing, and spinning games (quay mák lẹ)


Traditional Costume

  • Women wear blouses (áo cánh) and traditional skirts, adorned with headscarves and jewelry


Cuisine

  • Sticky rice (xôi nếp)

  • Bamboo-tube rice (cơm lam)

  • Fermented rice wine (rượu cần)

  • Grilled dishes


Housing

  • Stilt houses are common

    • Thái Đen (Black Thái) build homes shaped like turtle shells

    • Thái Trắng (White Thái) favor rectangular designs

  • Homes feature steep staircases and are culturally symbolic spaces
