ETHNIC GROUP INFORMATION
Historical Origins: The Dao people originated from China. Their migration into Vietnam began as early as the 12th–13th centuries and continued until the first half of the 20th century.
Family Structure: They follow a patrilineal system, where the elder male or the eldest son is the head of the household and decision-maker.
Festivals & Ceremonies: They celebrate Tết (Lunar New Year) in the first lunar month and honor their ancestors during major holidays. Important life-cycle rituals include the Cấp sắc initiation ceremony, weddings, and funerals.
Beliefs: They practice polytheistic worship, including the veneration of ancestors, the kitchen god, and the local earth deity. They conduct rituals for rain, sunshine, and pest control, along with offerings to protective and communal spirits.
Traditional Attire:
Men may grow long hair tied at the back of the head.
Women wear headscarves, long tunics, and pants, all richly decorated with beeswax-patterned motifs.

Their staple food is rice, although corn is preferred in some regions. Dishes often include boiled meat, dried meat, and sour bamboo shoot soup.
